Getting through a detoxification program can seem daunting but here are a few recommendations to help you along. Remember there is PLENTY to eat! It may just not be what you have been eating. ☺
Making the shake.
Most people feel 1 scoop of Mediclear is sufficient however if you are active, have a high metabolism or are used to a lot of calories use 1 1/2 - 2 scoops.
Only use 1/2 a banana because a whole one is too much sugar and makes the shake harder to digest.
For the liquid always use at least 1/2 water and the other 1/2 can be juice, rice milk, hemp milk, coconut water etc. This again decreases the sugar making them less caloric and better assimilated.
Add extra fiber to the shakes such as 1 tablespoon of organic flax meal and/or 2 tablespoons of organic pumpkin seeds. This increases the detoxification process by keeping the bowels moving, your blood sugar stable, and making you feel satiated. Both of these are available at the Common Market or MOM’s.
Make sure the shakes are of a thinner consistency rather than thick. This makes for easier assimilation and prevents constipation.
When just mixing Mediclear with only liquid you may want to use 1 1/2 - 2 scoops and mix with at least 1/2 water and the other 1/2 another liquid.
Things to keep in mind.
Plan your meals in advance. This is so important in order to make it a more pleasant and successful experience.
If you are full from “real” food you do not have to do the shake more than 1x/day, however if you find yourself craving foods or hungry than add the extra shake(s) or Mediclear and liquid in.
In order to feel your best don’t let your blood sugar get too low. Make sure you have plenty of snacks available. Nuts (except peanuts) mixed dried fruit, apples with almond butter, rice cakes with almond butter and fruit spread or rice cakes with tahini, honey and sprinkled flax meal. Snack on savory things too, quinoa salad, brown rice snaps (crackers) with hummus, baba ganoush or guacamole, a slice of organic chicken with mustard wrapped around some sprouts.
Season your food. When you make vegetables use lemon juice, olive oil, sesame oil, salt, thyme, basil, rosemary, ginger, garlic etc. This diet can be really delicious with some creativity.
Eat plenty of good fats. This will keep your blood sugar more stable and decrease cravings. When people eliminate dairy from their diet they are simultaneously eliminating a lot of fat. This fat is what makes one feel satiated. So, use olive oil, sesame oil, flaxseed oil, grapeseed oil, avocados, seeds, nuts, and coconut milk liberally to get that same feeling.
Eat plenty of WHOLE grains. Brown rice, buckwheat, quinoa, millet, oats. (All are available in bulk at the Common Market) Season these and get creative. One of these grains with either tahini, honey, fresh fruit and nuts or sesame oil, ginger, broccoli and scallions or olive oil, lemon juice, salt and avocado.
Substitute brown rice tortillas (available at The Common Market in the frozen section) for sandwich bread. Makes a delicious wrap stuffed with veggies, mustard and a lean protein.
Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day this flushes out your body and keeps your bowels moving.
Green tea will help alleviate caffeine withdrawal headaches.
The Common Market soup and salad bar. Lucky Corner’s pho noodle soups. Chipotle Grill has a rice or salad bowl, just avoid tomato salsas and the dairy products. The Orchard for stir-fry, soups and salads. Sushi but without the soy sauce. At many restaurants just request your protein grilled with steamed vegetables.
We hope these suggestions will help you to have an easier and more successful Mediclear experience.
